Immigrant

Who is Considered a Cape Verdean Emigrant?

A Cape Verdean emigrant is any individual born in Cabo Verde, regardless of whether they retain Cape Verdean nationality, as long as they can prove permanent residence abroad.

Equated to Emigrants:

  • Direct descendants of emigrants up to the 2nd degree;
  • Pensioners and retirees who have been emigrants, as well as their spouses, provided they receive pensions or similar income in foreign currency;
  • Widows and widowers of emigrants;
  • Cape Verdeans working at sea on foreign vessels.

Proof of Emigration Status

In order to benefit from the advantages established for emigrants (interest rates, preferences and tax benefits), you must update your proof of emigration status every year by presenting or sending the following documents to Banco Interatlântico:

  • Foreign passport for non nationals;
  • Identity card or NIC;
  • Emigrant Certificate issued by Cape Verdean Embassies, Consulates, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cabo Verde.

As an alternative to the Emigrant Certificate, you can submit the following documents:

  • Employment contract and residence card together, or other equivalent documents that jointly prove domicile and the exercise of a paid professional activity abroad for more than one year;
  • Proof of professional activity in a foreign country (recent pay slips, proof of retirement or pension, document confirming compliance with tax obligations related to the professional activity, or similar documents);
  • Equivalent documents proving residence in a foreign country (rent receipts, lease agreement, voter card, bank statement proving a loan).
